East Dartmouth Boys & Girls Club Annual Breakfast
Although it was a 7:30 am start and there was a winter blizzard in full force, several hundred people attended the East Dartmouth Boys & Girls Club fundraising breakfast at the NSCC Akerley Campus on January 29th, 2010
The Main Street Dartmouth and Area Business Association is very supportive of the Boys and Girls Club and was well represented at the breakfast with the executive director and several board members attending. In the future the Main Street BID will be considering innovative projects that will support the Boys and Girls Club and other organizations in our area. We believe that if residents, businesses, schools, churches and other organizations work together we can build a better Main Street community.
A Note from New Beginnings
New Beginnings is a psychosocial rehabilitation program for individuals living with long-term, persistent mental illness. A component of ones recovery can be meaningful employment. We all know that work gives one a sense of purpose; a reason to get out of bed in the morning. The same is true for our members. Two years ago we formed a partnership with the Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission. In those two years we have had six of our members working in our community. This past summer, Bill Mills from the Main Street Dartmouth Business Improvement Association, offered employment for individuals who would be interested in cleaning the sidewalks in their area. This new partnership has sprung from our current relationship with the Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission.
The Main Street Dartmouth Business Improvement Association has hired two of our members. They have provided these individuals competitive community employment, and the opportunity to realize their potential and a sense of community responsibility. This partnership with The Main Street Dartmouth Business Improvement Association is providing our members with support in their mental health through employment.
The Main Street area has been a wonderful support to our members. Several people are currently working in this area including our most recent partnership with The Garden View Restaurant. Thank you to Greg Fong and all of the others who have created such a wonderful environment for our member, whose self-confidence and selfesteem are increasing.
We would like to thank the Main Street Dartmouth Business Improvement Association for providing this wonderful opportunity and having the belief that work has an important role in mental health. Thank you. We look forward to many successful years working together. For any inquiries, please call: 483-1717 or 464-3608 Anne Moir New Beginnings Dartmouth
